Here at Energetic Soul Studios we have created a structured syllabus that will guide each dancer from a beginner to advanced level. Designed by Soul*sa founder duane Wrenn, this program systematically develops strong foundations, establishes important dance concepts, refines lead and follow skills and ultimately leads to a the creation of your own personal expression of dancing.

Our program is broken into eight color coded levels through which each dancer will pass as they travel the Energetic Soul*sa curriculum. Each level has a specific set of requirements and skill sets that will be mastered before moving on to the next.

Testing for each level is required to ensure that dancers have completely internalized the material and made it their own. Certificates are granted upon the successful completion of each exam.

Attaining higher levels in this unique program not only offer improved dancing skills but also allow the dancer to participate in our highly regarded Energetic Soul Studios Dance Team and Instructor Development Program.

Dancing Soul*sa is not just about learning a few steps for the night clubs. Anyone can teach some cool moves and patterns. Soul*sa is about taking part in rich cultural heritage as one learns not only about Salsa, but more importantly about oneself.

Soul*sa Color Coded Levels:

Green (Beginner 1): This is where it all begins. Like building a beautiful new home, we must first start with a strong foundation. In Soul*sa this means mastering the seven major variations of the Base'. Once this foundation is understood, many new possibilities will begin to emerge for the fledgling dancer.

Yellow (Beginner 2): At this level your dance will begin to evolve with more variations of our foundation steps. More emphasis is placed on partner combinations as well as lead and follow skills.

Orange (Intermediate 1): With more footwork variations and partner combinations, your dancing is truly starting to take shape. As your timing improves, the rhythm of the dance will now be ingrained in your heart.

Purple (Intermediate 2): The lead-follow relationship between dancers is the core of this level. Leaders will gain more confidence and add more variety to their repertoire, and followers will develop the sensitivity to follow not only patterns but freelance dancing as well. *This is the minimum level required to be part of the ESS Dance Team

Blue (Intermediate 3): Continuing to develop our lead-follow skills, new and more intricate patterns are introduced in a way to encourage your own innovations and creativity. The true partnership of dancing is explored as an intimate communication between two dancers. *This is the minimum level required to be part of the ESS Instructor Development Program.

Brown (Advanced 1): Partnership patterns become more intricate with the introduction of tempo changes, advancing arm patterns, and rhythmic body movements.

Red (Advanced 2): To truly appreciate the beauty behind the dance we will delve into the origins of Soul*sa by examining and experiencing other dances. More refinements are made in our body movements and timing as we learn to express the art of movement to music.
